Finding a new job is now more complicated than the past. There used to be just newspaper advertisements or you could walk in a store when you see them advertising or possibly through word of mouth or a job agency.
But these days, with the internet, job postings on paper significantly decreased. I wonder what companies still use them, and are they still traditional in some ways? Then there are companies who used agencies, job portals and also direct advertising on their own website or through social media platforms. Sounds like they have a big budget for recruiting talents, don't they? Then there are some whom prefer to get referrals from their employees or on their intranet or quietly post on career section of their website. So secretive...
With these advancements, it is not easy to find a job anymore using the traditional ways. Besides putting myself on LinkedIn, other social media platforms (companies even created Twitter and Facebook for recruitment these days), job portals, sending in to job agencies, looking up companies website and check for vacancies (often unreliable with not up-to-date information)... I found an link article on how to locate the hidden jobs in the market. A clever google search really. It works but unfortunately I didn't find many jobs located in Singapore.
I have this new found method but it requires more effort and initiative, go to an area where you like to work and look up those directory of the companies in that building. It's often not difficult to find them, but getting the insider information if they are hiring is more tricky. Then you might need to look up their website, find connections (people you know or via LinkedIn or go to some upcoming events) or even initiate an email to the Human Resource department or the boss (this might not work most of the time, but you never know when you might get lucky!).
I am trying everything out at the moment... Haha. So you see job search can be really tedious and boring or it can be fun.

Happy New Year!
No new year resolution this year. But there is always a rule I live by and it will still not change.
My rule: Live outta your comfort zone.
So... go on. Make new friends, make some enemies. Travel to a new place, or revisit one and see something new. Travel alone or travel with someone new. If you have always been saying "yes", learn to say "no" and vice versa. Embrace change. Lend a helping hand to someone. Start a new hobby or pick up an old one you haven't had time for. Love yourself. Dump the assh*le if you're seeing one. Be happy but accept sadness as part of life, find strength for renewal. Spend more time with people whom you have been taking for granted (i.e. family). Don't forget your old friends, say Hello sometimes. Write a card. Start a journal or even something like #100happydays on Instagram. Don't follow the trends, start one. Do something you love instead for monetary gain (if we can!).

Redeemed
Just a few days before November ended, I went for the first facial in my life. It was a birthday treat at Spa Rael at an unbelievable promotional rate, thanks to NTUC Income. They appointed a PRC staff to attend to me and apparently she's the only chinese they claimed to employ, the rest being Malaysians. I have no particular preference, in fact, I thought she was good and very attentive to me so I was quite satisfied. I was also trying hard to perfect my Mandarin by making conversations with her. After the treatment, there was a post analysis chat where they tried to sell you a package; even though the staff told me she wouldn't be pushy but it sounded otherwise. Anyway, it is easy to refuse when you're jobless but you have to be firm on it! Don't make a mistake like I did with a hair salon - shall describe the horror stories in another post!
It was also end of November, I gave my dear feet a pampering foot mask. Sister gifted me this mask from Nature Republic. It worked wonders. I soaked them in the liquid in the pack for about an hour or so. You wouldn't see any effect immediately. But give it a week, you will notice the soles start peeling. It's like skin renewing... or a snake changing its skin! I got impatient and started to peel them myself! LOL. After a week, I reclaimed a pair of smooth clean feet minus the dead skin. It would be great to do this every quarter of the year.
I couldn't remember when I resumed swimming. It must be the time Joy came back to Singapore, almost 2.5 years back. No matter how hard I tried, swimming didn't help me lose weight. But it gave me a more toned physique. I also started to swim again after Joy left a year back... alone at the public pool. Slowly, I picked up the stamina. Then I found a buddy for a while, but now gone back to being alone at the public pool again. I also ventured to the lap pool whenever I felt courageous enough. At times, I would also go up to the sun deck after a swim to have a lay and read for a bit. I can't deduce whether it's swimming or both with the diet, now I have lost a couple of kilos (back to my ideal weight 5 years ago!) and also more tanned from those swimming. More importantly, I am very happy to be able to wear some of my favourite clothes again!
Just two weeks back, I went for a hair cut (my 4th one since July). I had been conned to sign a package, and thus this year I broke my own record of going to the hair salon for 4 times in 6 months. Anyway, to cut the story short for now, my hair is now shoulder length, it has been a while since it was this length. But I am ready to have it different. I also dyed them "Milk Caramelisee" color. I have started using these Beautylabo whipped hair color, this is the 3rd color I have tried and also the color best "absorbed" into my hair so far. I can really see the brown, especially under the lighting, it gets even lighter. I love the convenience of coloring your hair just like shampooing them! I wish they invent something for highlighting the hair which is just as easy!
So with a new hairstyle, hair color, new weight, new feet and also a revitalised face, I have redeemed myself. Not to mention, also credits to my friends, my mum and the little sister for all the love and encouragement... I found my renewed strength. This time, I am back stronger than before!

Picking up
A pat on my back. I finally finished writing the stories of my Japan trip. I hope my memory pillow works and I didn't forget any eventful incident. One more travel story to write, then my checklist will be all checked.
Time to get down to running a few other errands I have been putting off. It's about time to get myself a new mobile number, I have a love-hate relationship with that. I'm done being tied to M1, their service has been deteriorating as time goes by. I don't mind a new number but I hate the hassles that come with it. Change, how I like you and dislike you at the same time.

New toys for home
After a couple of years, it's time to say bye to our old Samsung washing machine. It had been giving us countless power trips, the Dad never wanted to give up trying (oh dad, please!). Things do wear and tear. It still worked at the time we dumped it, but once it started the spinning, it just cut off the electricity. Then it got worse, sometimes before even it started to rinse or wash. So after a few weeks of fruitless tries and shopping, we finally found our new LG washer at the Harvey Norman Expo Sale. It was a fantastic deal because we bought the display set, it was further discounted. The only thing is the mum did not fancy the idea of a front loader (neither did she when we had the top loader). She got used to it only in the last year or so and started doing the washing (normally the old man does). So I know she just needs time to adapt, and this one is not any harder to learn - turn that knob and press play! Finally another thing off the list.
I also bought myself a mini fan. I wonder how I managed to survive the 32°C nights, sometimes I had to crawl onto the marble floor to fall sleep. That fan in the room shared with my sister just isn't enough anymore. Fortunately the last nights had been more cooling and I didn't even need to use it. Oh, but I have always wanted to get a mini fan like this, just wish that it's gold in color!

It's already September
Time flies. We just celebrated one of my close friends' birthday. She has been back in Singapore for almost 1.5 years now and she is leaving soon. My heart aches. Another one comes and goes. It's already the norm, yet I can't help but still feel the pain. In the earlier years, I was away in UK, then she went away to USA for studies when I returned... Finally, we reunited but only for a short time. As the chinese phrase says, “不管天长地久，只在乎曾经拥有” (it's not the quantity, it's the quality)! I have also began to appreciate the real meaning of the phrase regarding many things in life! Joy, I will miss you!!
The wonder of optimism is making an impact on my life. Never say "No"! I have been using that during my job hunting recently, even for jobs I am uncertain about, jobs that can never pay enough... I didn't say "No". I went ahead for the interviews, some made me laugh, the others made me cry! The lessons learnt each time is only making me stronger and wiser :) Why be afraid, why do we reject? I enjoyed the time I went down to talk to the interviewers, it might not work out, but there was nothing I had to lose! I wish my younger sister is learning this but unfortunately she has been taking things a little to hard and it's difficult to make someone see positivity when one is so down.
I landed on that job I wanted, out of the 5 interviews I had and one more which had been flying my planes umpteen times. I was even surprised at my patience dealing with that last one. Perhaps there was no rush, no urgency, and I could more vividly see or focus on what I wanted. Nothing to cloud my mind! My heart has been beating so fast since... Am I ready this time? I have decided to let things happen, I will work hard and I shall enjoy this new journey! (Well, at least for the next 6 months ;))

And so he has arrived...
This is a professional review on my new man >> here.
I read all about him. I went around searching for him (to have a test ride). When I finally found him, but my initial thoughts was he was quite a handful, as in he took up the whole of my palm! He wasn't the easiest to mind read; I kept pressing on his wrong buttons, at times I almost gave up. He doesn't has a manual, the only way to know him is still to keep pressing those buttons till I get them right. A pdf could only go this far. Forums do help.
To date, it has been a little over 2 weeks, 17 days old to be exact. I'm still figuring him out, it probably will take me quite a while. I don't think I know everything about my BB whom now sits by my bed as my alarm. His rubber parts have all fallen apart making him prone to dust invasion, so I have to tuck him nicely in a pouch. I still recall having a spare samsung phone which I need to bring out on special occasions, e.g. attending a wedding dinner, a party or anything I wouldn't have much time on the phone! Now, how many phones is considered too many??
Anyway, why did I choose this man? It's very simple, I pick anything free* that goes with my plan. My desired brand this time round is HTC, and there are only 2 choices - Wildfire S and Incredible S. The only thing keeping me back from the purchase was the HTC support in Singapore which I read is horrendous. I hope I never have to use them. I would have considered HTC ChaCha just for the keypad but they are only limited to SingTel, so one choice down. I later saw it in reality and thought I would never give up BB for ChaCha if you saw the way it looked.
*Means I only pay a nominal fee 2 years later if I keep this phone.
While it has a few things I'm still getting used to, such as a touchscreen keypad, highly sensitive touchscreen, pressing the power button everytime I need to unlock it... Also many that Android can possibly improve, having folders in "All apps" instead of on home screen, enhanced address book and other built in apps but these we can easily replaced with the others we choose to install.
I'm not a big iPhone fan, but I don't hate them as well. I think they are good if you just want it like a bundle, just like a packaged tour, it comes all inclusive with many add-ons. I do like to point out a few things my handful man can do (I'm not an iPhone user, so correct me if I'm wrong if iPhone can do that as well):
1. Weather widget
My favourite built in app. It rains and shines on my screen, it never fails to brighten up a gloomy day.
2. Customisable apps and themes
I have now Go SMS and Go Contacts to replace the default SMS inbox and address book. Sorry B, Handcent SMS interface doesn't appeal as much to me as this one does. I can even use a different theme everytime! I have a few now. I'm looking forward to change it to the Christmas one when time comes.
3. I can stick a post-it note on my home screen as a reminder!
4. I have 6 screens to play around with to place my favourite short-cuts, or widgets from the apps, e.g. daily horoscope, weather or news feed.
I can't think of more now, but I will tell you later if I find out more new features. I never thought anything of widgets until I'm now an Android user! They are godsend inventions!! By now, I have already 7 pages of apps from the inital 2-3 provided, I'm becoming an apps whore. The 8mp camera also comes with default lomo effects which I can readily apply. But who needs them when there are too many free apps around! Mr. Incredible S is also lighter than iPhone 4, I have allowed my surrounding iPhone users to have a comparison test.
So he's really quite a handful, isn't he!

BB I miss you!
I really do.
If you ever see me blog from mobile, I am using my BB. It's almost impossible for me to type on a touchscreen without feeling like throwing it against the wall. Nothing beats a real keypad. I do love my new phone for all the other functions, except accidentally tapping on my data usage! Other than that, it serves me pretty well. Ebooks, games, camera applications... The awesome weather widget, the ability to bookmark news for offline reading, free messaging with my oversea friends... There's definitely a lot more, so I can close one eye about the keypad. It just means I would write lesser, but I still can with my BB I guess :) I want to tell you all about the new phone but I shall leave it to another time.

Good morning, teacher!
My first day of school was stuffed with spicy Thai food, filled with coffee, relaxing with restricted internet surfing and a good exercise for my mouth, hands and feet. I work in this cool shophouse, sitting right under the attic, tucked away in a cosy corner. To get up there I have to climb our spiral stairs. I got to meet everyone in the office to say hello and hope they remember my name than me trying to recall theirs. I met my UK team during a video conference, it was a weird experience to get introduced this way, but I will get used to a lot of video conferencing. I will even get my namecards soon, my second professional namecard afterall. Very proud of it! My boss is great, colleagues are easy-going and the environment is pleasant, can't ask for more really! So what should I wear tomorrow? :)

It's gonna be a good good day!
Tomorrow (or actually later today) is my first day of school... (just as BS would describe it). Well, it should be bedtime now but I guess I need to blog about the excitement before it's gone!
I have done tonnes of preparation, yet I still think it's not enough. I was trying out the clothes and then I realised I haven't had a pair of shoes that would go with anything and everything! I need new pants and skirts, and I didn't manage to get those recently except quite a couple of new tops. I have some from many years back (which are likely to go to donation bins), and some recently that aren't very appropriate. I dug out clothes that I kept, some for ages, and ironed enough to last me at least 2 weeks! I took out the notebook which I bought months ago, and I knew it would come in handy one day, tomorrow is that day. I also got myself a silk shirt from British India the other day after the 1st interview and promised to wear it on the first day of my new job. I bought myself a Christmas Starbucks tumbler and am very eager to have it on my desk soon!
I am very curious how things will go tomorrow. But somehow I have a good feeling that this time round this is going to be a good journey. You know the phrase "Better late than never!" and this is exactly how I feel. I gotta admit I am a late bloomer, everything better comes late for me... Like how crappy my English was, and now it is a world difference, not the best but it's a world apart. And to think that I could top the Scrabble competition at my ex-company competition, no one believed my English was really bad. The same goes for the men I have met, the horrible ones that I blindly believed were the best, and I am so glad I see things differently now. I am very certain now, which are the ones to avoid and what are the types I do want to keep by my side :)

Today I also donated a pair of sneakers I bought from London many years back, still in excellent condition, but I bought it on impulse and it turned out to be too tight. Running Lab at Tampines One is actually collecting them for The Salvation Army, in return they will give you a S$50 voucher for purchase of running shoes (the promotion is till end of November). I didn't want the voucher as I don't need any running shoes, but it feels good to know the shoes will be put to good use at least. So if you have any old running shoes/sneakers you want to throw, you know where to go now!

Counting down
The mood is settling in. Thankfully.
I have gotten used to the idea I need to wake up about 7ish, need to leave the house 8ish. I have thought about the clothes I need to iron, the bags I want to take, the things I want to bring and slowly fill up my desk. It sounds crazy but I am actually getting excited. I'm thinking about the wine drinking Fridays, I'm looking forward to meeting new colleagues. I'm also thankful to have friends working around the corner and already suggesting me places for lunches, YEAY, and more lunch buddies. I haven't thought about the peak hour madness in the morning, I also haven't thought about how a deskbound job will again encourage weight gain, I haven't thought about how busy I will get. But I am sure things will fall into places.
Tomorrow is the last weekday where I have my freedom! Freedom, I miss you... but till we meet again :)

Signing my life away
I'm freaking out. Happy but nervous. What an irony?
Somehow, a permanent job hasn't happened for some years and by right I should be happy about it. There's so much more to look forward to and also to better benefits than being a contract staff. But the contracts allowed me to regain freedom and my spontaneous travelling, that is something I am going to miss. But I'm sure travelling when I have a permanent job won't be any lesser as I have now a very good number of annual leave :) I was told I might have chances to travel for work - Wow, something I didn't expect but great, I won't say "NO" till I'm at the age where I'm sick of it. At least, not for a long time!
Things I do look forward to are actually very simple... I miss having my own desk and one I can decorate it as if I'm staying for a long time. I can bring my own mug, slippers, jacket and stick funny notes on my desk! This hasn't happened for a long time, in my last job, I worked in a meeting room for most time, I only got a desk for 3 days??? There was no sense of belonging, no form of security. It's contradicting, I dread being tied down but I do enjoy the fact that I belong somewhere! This now feels like I'm getting married to my job... very scary. What a complicated mind I have...
I look forward to new colleagues and new experiences. I never reject these in my life, they are exciting moments! I have a feeling that my "boss" is someone quite easy to work with too and hope my instincts these days are accurate! He's scottish and apparently very nice from the 3 times I have met him. Also, the team in the UK, I hope we will have a good working chemistry!
For now, I guess I better shop for some proper working clothes as the environment is different from the last few places I was in.

I am really excited about the coming future, with a good company and seemingly nice line manager whom I'll be reporting to. But at the same time, I have my fears. Though I know I'm going to get used to it real soon, I'm just like that. My life is constantly evolving, sometimes so much that I am wary of what's coming next. But I'm prepared and I'll be fine. You know, everyone has some "emo" moments.
Things usually come when you least expect it. Just like my previous job, I was called up to the interview the very last minute, and I wasn't even keen in the job when I first heard of it. But after the interview, I changed my mind and very luckily too, I was selected. I remember I was cat-sitting (Oh yes, this reminds me I haven't got those pictures up and blog about this!) when I got the call, the interview was a few hours later and I had nothing proper to wear except for a pretty pleasant blouse with leggings. I swore they stared at my leggings when I went in, but the interviewers were already informed. Besides my leggings, the interview went pretty well and then I was shortlisted for a second one with a guy flown down from UK. It was stressful, packed with many tough questions and I managed to get through most with a bit of a laugh... There was also a test on my knowledge on HTML and CSS. Thank God I did read up the night before!
So to keep the story short, yes, after 4 months of happening activities, time is up. I have done so much in the past 4 months that it didn't feel like I was in between jobs. So many films watched, so many writings done, so many friends met, 2 holidays, cat-sitting trial-and-error, swam more than I ever did in the past year, so many cakes eaten... very eventful. But it is time to refill my little hole in my pocket ;)

Gift for myself ;)
While everyone else is busy earning money, I'm spending my hard earned savings... Yes, bad, I know. I will make sure I'll fill up the gap later. But recently, I'm in the mood to spend, by that it often means I'm feeling a little grumpy and thus the shopping mood.
So I am making this purchase as my own birthday present. Ha ha. A bit early, yes.
It's something I have always wanted. Don't kill me please!
A flip phone or some call it a clamshell!!!! And a Samsung GT S3600i! My only spare phone is a malfunctioning 8 years Samsung lady's flip phone or clamshell, which has already lost its antenna. I guess, a good enough reason for me to get one??? Well, I do have my favourite Blackberry at the moment, but it's under M1 contract which is I'm literally loaning from them for 2 years till I buy it off them at the end of my contract (still more than 1 year to go!). I remember how miserable I was when I lost my last phone and was struggling with the 8 year-old spare phone which would lose calls halfway through.
I had been searching for a red or gold Motorola Razr for the longest time, but a brand new will cost me maybe over S$300... I didn't want to spend that much for a spare phone. Or I call it a holiday phone. Guess what? This is less than half the price of a Razr. I walked by the Samsung shop some days back, saw it, and was captivated. It was not till I had walked into the store for 3 times at least before I finally decided to buy it. Yes, I did think for quite some time, walking back and forth. I love this sleek phone and its color. It's like champagne gold, with dark brown theme when you open the flip. A very basic and simple phone, no wifi, no 3G, lousy camera... but most importantly, it is a flip phone! I need just that, and the basic calling and messaging. It should satisfy me :)
p.s: I love Samsung, they are pretty long-lasting in my experience. I also love Blackberry & Sharp (not in Singapore sadly).

It's geeky time
It's very funny that today I went to the optometrist/optician and he after examining told me my eyesight has "improved". WOAH??! My "degrees" on both eyes have fallen, despite my increase in computer usage in the last 2 years. How strange!? But I decided to keep the prescription for the new spectacles as the ones I have now, as they work just great. I wonder how accurate that automated refractor is?? I saw the numbers on the slip and they differed quite a lot! It probably explained why I can still see without my glasses? LOL. Then I was asked to sit in a small corner where I had to read tiny letters and differentiate numbers on green and red background. I enjoy this much better than visiting a dentist ;)

Skyler & his invisible crowns
Meet Skyler, a man of talent :)
I first met Skyler (a Taiwanese) on my flight back from Taiwan. This is the first time I actually stay in touch with someone I have spoken to on the plane. It isn't really my kinda thing to start talking to strangers onboard the planes. Both of us were travelling alone, and somehow it was easy to start a conversation since we aren't at all arrogant ;)
We shared our love for travels, my thoughts about Taiwan and some pretty pictures during the 4 hours flight, of course, not the whole time... We sure needed our naps. Before we landed, he passed me his bookmark which was designed for his previous exhibition I believed. I learnt that he's an artist and would be having an exhibition here in Singapore too. So he told me the date and invited me... it was 3 days ago. His works are amazingly imaginative and I really will like to buy one of his paintings someday. I wish I could paint like him!

New bangs
Finally after almost 20 years, a hairstylist gathered the courage to cut me bangs... As I always have natural curl, almost all stylists I had tell me it's not advisable to cut my fringe. They gave me all the reasons that I shouldn't have it too short... But the thing is I want it short!
I had my haircut at Kim Robinson, one of the upper class salons where a cleanse, cut and finish would cost a minimum of S$128. Well, the thing is I didn't pay for it... Thanks to a magazine I bought few months back, I had the voucher to be utilised at Kim Robinson with a stylist named Sha Sha. I googled her and realised she's korean, someone happened to have the free cut by her. As the review was not bad, I decided to book my appointment with Sha Sha not long after I returned.
So there I went on a nice Tuesday afternoon after a stroll down Orchard Road and spending an hour in Prologue bookstore. I'm fascinated by everything in a bookstore. I arrived shortly before my scheduled time, it was very busy inside. From the entrance, it looked very grand. Near the cashier of the salon were a variety of posh hair accessorises selling at very steep prices, my heart skipped a beat as I waited to be served.
Soon someone led me in to an empty corner after verifying if I was using any voucher. I settled down and Sha Sha came. She had an assistant, supposedly to be the shampoo girl too. They both stood behind me and then I was asked about what kind of hairstyle I was looking at. I took out this magazine where I had my eyes on this cut for the longest time ever and asked her if it suited me. I wasn't sure if I understood her but she told me I needed to perm my fringe for that (pretty weird as it resembled more of nicely curved bangs). I ended up flipping her book of hairstyles and settled for one. But in the end I think I still got the cut I wanted from my magazine, except that they blew my hair straight after... it was curly in the magazine. Amusing.
The shampoo was good accompanied with a neck massage, I almost fell asleep - so comfortable. I was also served a complimentary drink during the cut. Then Sha Sha came, the assistant stood besides her all the time and was holding up my hair while she cut. I was not used to this. I made some small talk with her and found out she was here for only 5 months, very new. So I guess the salon was trying her out and giving away some free cuts with their new stylists. Very smart idea...! Basically it's similar to free cuts at Toni & Guys hair school except that Sha Sha is probably already well-trained! She also recommended ways to maintain my new hairstyle and some styling tips (but I think I'm a bit too old for the very adorable style).
All in all, I'm quite pleased with the service and Sha Sha did seem pretty courageous to be the first to give me bangs ;) I was given a stack of coupons after that I can use for future or recommend a friend. The discounted prices are, of course, still higher than the normal salons, but if you're interested, drop me a message :)
p.s: Sha Sha actually wanted to cut me Amelie's hairstyle... but I didn't have the guts to chop it all off!

My new toy :P
I bought my 3rd digital camera today!!! It's a little sudden but I have the intention anyway, supposedly to purchase at the next IT fair before my Taiwan trip. But it just happened.
Mummy dearest is not very pleased with me buying a camera. She said I have gotten one in Hong Kong last year, but that's a lomo camera (using 35mm film). She doesn't see the difference, to her, a camera IS a camera. I reckon she needs some retail therapy too, so she won't be too upset that I have spent my money on something :p Mummy, let's go shopping then.
My first digital camera was 3MP Canon Powershot that lasted me 5 good years before the repeated batteries I bought died on me and the buttons became faulty. It costed me S$780 on the camera alone!!! But I believed I spent near S$900 to add on those accessories, etc. I must be insane, but those were the days gadgets were so costly because technology was still very new!
My second camera was 6MP Fujifilm Fd31 which produced excellent colored photos till it became sick on the last day of its 1st year warranty. Since then it broke down on me twice during my holidays despite the repair. I was very affected by it, it never really gives me any sense of security anymore. It worked well in Hong Kong but I am still very hesitant about bringing it to Taiwan for 2 weeks! What if it breaks down again, I am so going to cry :( It costed me S$480 but was a very worthy buy as it included all the accessories with extra memory card as well as battery! That's about half the price of the first camera. It also features manual control and will work as a good back up still for now :)
So my latest toy is a 12MP Panasonic Lumix DMC FP8, not something I will usually look at. I wondered if I'd regret this impulse purchase as I usually do tonnes of research before going to a shop. Today I just happened to come across this COURTS sale at the Expo, sister was the one buying her virgin camera. I was giving her advice, and I ended up getting one too! Well but after testing the camera and was given a good price, I just gave in to it :( The camera was even up for bidding, only 10 sets at a further S$20 discount. It was almost ending when I put my hand up - can't believe I did that! But now yes, this pocket camera is mine at barely S$280. After reading the reviews, I am quite glad I did, because it's sounds like a perfect fit for my upcoming trip! Can you imagine how big the price difference is for a camera at 12MP and one at 3MP years ago... gosh.
I had promised myself I would not spend over S$500 on the next camera since Fujifilm died on me after only a year. I have also been wanting a Panasonic Lumix, and now I have chosen this above all the others I have been eyeing on including: GF1, LX3 and even FX37. I just didn't want to pay so much more for a toy I carry around for a couple of years, besides a lot of the times, what you need is a good photographer ;) My sister bought herself a Nikon Coolpix S620 at half its original price too - was such a bargain!!
