New toys for home

After a couple of years, it's time to say bye to our old Samsung washing machine. It had been giving us countless power trips, the Dad never wanted to give up trying (oh dad, please!). Things do wear and tear. It still worked at the time we dumped it, but once it started the spinning, it just cut off the electricity. Then it got worse, sometimes before even it started to rinse or wash. So after a few weeks of fruitless tries and shopping, we finally found our new LG washer at the Harvey Norman Expo Sale. It was a fantastic deal because we bought the display set, it was further discounted. The only thing is the mum did not fancy the idea of a front loader (neither did she when we had the top loader). She got used to it only in the last year or so and started doing the washing (normally the old man does). So I know she just needs time to adapt, and this one is not any harder to learn - turn that knob and press play! Finally another thing off the list.

I also bought myself a mini fan. I wonder how I managed to survive the 32°C nights, sometimes I had to crawl onto the marble floor to fall sleep. That fan in the room shared with my sister just isn't enough anymore. Fortunately the last nights had been more cooling and I didn't even need to use it. Oh, but I have always wanted to get a mini fan like this, just wish that it's gold in color!

Murderer at home

My iron at home is dead, thanks to the lovely sister whom always kills things accidentally with her poor product knowledge! It is barely a few months old!! I threw the last one away which we all loved because it was risking short-circuit due to the broken cord. How am I going to iron my shirt for my interview? Sucks.

Spicy crabs by Ms. Potatoe

A week ago, my mum kindly let me take over the cooking wok and did the chilli crabs... So hey, the list of things I can cook is getting longer as the days go by. Especially now, we have also newly added a Tefal oven purchased from Carrefour. More baking fun! Okay, instead of getting out of the point, here's my simple pictures-tell-the-story on the crabs-cooking (not crap cooking!).

Perfecting the home

I finally convinced myself Toshiba Portege is for me, actually I need little persuasion as my heart has already been set on it. That little rascal ibook-alike has stolen my heart, right from the beginning... LOL. Well, the older 12.1" model was what I have been eyeing on for a long along time! It used to cost S$2699 and today it is only selling at S$1599 at Sitex (the PC fair). And this newer model M600 is retailing at S$2299, managed to get it a little lower than that. I can't reveal how I manage to afford this, but somehow I'm very lucky and thankful to someone:))

Vista isn't really my cuppa tea but the thing is it does work or even look a little like Mac operating system! My heart with Apple has died along with my ibook and even today I have little yearning for a Macbook, let alone a Macbook Pro!


My sister has suddenly gone crazy about the idea of getting an oven. It was my plan but somehow it has affected her more than me and she's dying to get one ASAP to start baking Christmas cookies for her "teachers". I told her to spare them from being her guinea pigs! I was easy with the choices but after reading up, I realize choosing an appliance is not as easy as I thought. What method and component an oven uses can greatly affect the quality of the end products, I want my cookies to be nice and juicy, not dry and hard!

A new Wishy wash

It's different when it comes to shopping for clothes, cosmetic to household appliances or even furnitures. It isn't just a personal preference anymore, it becomes a decision based on majority votes.

Our washing machine whom had been jumping abnormally for the past year during the spin is finally being taken away, I didn't get a chance to let it have a last wash for my laundry (sadly, I was so lazy last night). Instead I gave the new Samsung WA85U3 a test wash with them.

Yesterday, 5 women went down to Courts just to choose a washing machine. We have a small budget so 2-in-1 machine (washer & dryer) is definitely out. Though I secretly wish 1 day I will be able to afford that and have it in my own home;)

My cousin, my 2 sisters, me and mum were presented with various brands and types of washing machines. Our final choice was a Samsung (with air turbo & 6.5kg capacity), only priced at $301 which sounds very reasonable. My sister and cousin have preferred a much larger older model Samsung with a 8kg capacity, but I was against the "bigger is better, more is good" thinking. I'm the one doing the laundry, so is my dad. These people whom are choosing aren't the one using it, so I proposed we should base the purchase on practical usage.

After much hesitation, opinions and voting, I won (3 votes against 2)!! Also during the shopping, I found a nice oven which I hope I will be able to get after my first salary. Woohoo... time to start my DIY baking lessons.

Wishy washy

We have a new addition to the household... and my mum is dreadful of changes. In fact, she is so wary that I am going to do her job now. Parents, they are sooooo.... traditional and afraid to make changes to their routine. You could probably imagine your elderly parents or grandparents being like this.

But I welcome this new washing machine, in fact I think we just needed one. I can't imagine my mum have been doing the washing with her poor hands for years... I did that in London for a couple of months when I had to live without one in a flat. So incredible, don't you think but I survived. My sister got it at a discounted price, which might be a reason why it acted up all so weird during the spinning process... it get agitated like a cat whom has its tail stepped!

Really!! It made a whole lot of noise, trembled like someone having fits... in fact, it jumped about. My parents got so fed up with it that now I just have to do the washing without a spin.

Ice cream, baby, ice cream!

My dad has unassumingly bought a new fridge, branded "Farfalla". Its said to be an Italian brand, I bet its more just an Italian name to package it. Clever assholes!! Oh yeah, it means butterfly in Italian it was said on their site. Whatcha-name-for-a-fridge! I'm not sure how reputable it is, just hope it can last us for some years. Our old "Mitsubishi" has met with breathing difficulties a few weeks ago, today it will be send away. Poor thing - its plastered with too many stickers as well.

Finally finally finally... I've not seen ices for a while at home. Now I can buy ice cream, groceries to stock up, ooo... & more cooking lessons! I can't wait to see it...
