Just for you

Merry Christmas my dear friends!

22.12.11

30 goodie packs

They come in cute Daiso transparent bags, each fronted by a Santa Claus on a red Christmas wreath. They are selectively packed with Cheezels, Twisties, Andes, Palmer, Toblerone chocolates and some others. Thirty of them. I have meant to give them away to friends and colleagues.

After being a day or two of "Ms Santarina", I am now left with just a few packs to be given out. This year, I have decided to do it a little different, I have allocated some for the auntie at YAMI yogurt, the receptionists, an administrative uncle and two cleaners in the office. The reactions from them varied but it pleased me watching the joy I witnessed on their faces. I wanted to describe it to you, because it is just so different from the ones I get from my colleagues.

Few hours ago, my Facebook status wrote,"Giving the cleaner a goodie pack is more satisfying than giving them to my colleagues. Those are the people who need to feel appreciated." Isn't it true? My mum once worked as a cleaner, and I really detest people who tend to not show them any respect.

So I shall describe the reactions from the few people I mentioned above.

#1 - New receptionist
She has been here for a couple of weeks, thus very new and still warming up to the place. When I passed a goodie pack to her, she seemed really surprised and thanked me immediately. Later that evening, she actually "opened" the door for me which she usually doesn't (pressing a button to release the security door).

#2 - Administrative uncle
A Malay uncle who has been doing the courier and the ad-hoc stuff in the office. Everyone knows him but few really talks to him. He was standing in for the receptionist for lunch when I presented him with a pack. He seemed very glad too. When I saw him again, he actually gave me a very sincere smile.

#3 - Receptionist
She's a familiar face to all and a couple of times I had some small talks with her. Nothing serious or too personal, just very general things usually. When I handed over her a goodie pack, she reacted like the new receptionist, then sent me another thank you message over the IM.

#4 - Cleaner auntie (office)
This plump auntie loves to eat. She would eat at any chance. I would sometimes give her some food as it's her next pastime in the office besides cleaning. She's a little lazy but overall quite harmless, except for her greed for food. So when I gave her a pack, it seemed like just another of the occasion I gifted her food.

#5 - Cleaner auntie (toilet)
This poor auntie always has this grumpy face. I could understand as my mum was once doing the same job. She once cursed and swore when someone made a mess in the toilet, I would too... I couldn't stand it when I see some inconsiderate bitches leaving the toilet paper all over the floor or left their mess in the cubicle. She always come at specific timings to replenish the stuff in the toilets, so I waited for her the whole afternoon today. She's also often left stranded outside the door when the receptionist is away, she would press the bell but no one came to her aid. Then I would go to her rescue, often enough for her to recognise me. She would smile and thank me. Then I realised, she's very amiable afterall. Today I went in while she was cleaning the toilet, suddenly stood in front of her and gave it to her. She was shocked when I said,"It's for you!" She recovered and said in Mandarin,"For Christmas?" I said,"Yes!" She gave me a smile that brightened my gloomy day; I am so glad she knows she isn't forgotten.

#6 - YAMI yogurt auntie
The auntie I met when I was a teenager. I haven't visited her for a few weeks now, feeling a little guilty and decided to have one for dinner today. It was about closing time, she was more busy than usual, doing her closing. She seems a little hostile than usual, but soon warmed up when I chit-chatted with her. When she handed me my yogurt, I handed her the goodie pack. Her face lit up and said,"So sweet! Thank you!" I have heard this a few times when I gave out the packs, and always have thought it's a very common thing to do. But hearing that, it sounded like I am an alien!

If you suck at gift wrapping, come to us!

I came to know about this event when I did a google search on charity gift wrapping - Love for a dollar. It's basically providing Christmas wrapping service for kind donations going towards Salvation Army. I love my handicrafts, so it is perfect for someone like me. I also found quite a few like-minded people on the same journey.

This morning, I started my first shift. It should be a warm-up before I do it again on Christmas Eve and the Friday before Christmas which I can foresee madness. The first two and a half hours, we literally had no one coming to us with gifts, except for a few kind donations. But later on towards the late afternoon, customers streamed in, mainly students, aunties and uncles whom are not at work. I must say we are quite lucky, we did not encounter anyone who refused to make a donation - any amount, even though we did state a minimum of a dollar. I heard from my fellow volunteer, she encountered one auntie whom made them wrapped the gifts and claimed to have no money when she was carrying a branded handbag and wearing gold necklace. Unfortunately, such people still exists. I hope I don't get to see them during my shifts!

Christmas nails

Oh dear, oh dear... it definitely has been a while. What have I been so busy with!! Now I'm back for a little short entry, just to let you know I'm still here! ;)

Here's a little entry for the nails I did for Christmas :)

Frohe Weihnachten!

It's the time of the year again!

MERRY CHRISTMAS EVERYONE!!

A festive season filled with many wonderful memories of the past... This year, it's a rather quiet one; in the past years, I spent it at dinner with friends or held a mini party at home with the sisters. But both sisters are away, so I decided to take my parents out for a meal. (As one gets older, sometimes priorities do take a shift!) Just 3 of us at a nice Chinese restaurant named PUTIEN, they seemed to enjoy it as mum was still going on about the fried duck wrapped with yam on the phone. So here's some pictures to share our joy :)

Apparently this brand derives its roots from Putian, a town in the Fujian province of China. It began as a small restaurant in Singapore and has since expanded to 7 outlets, and needless to say, the prices have also increased tremendously. I have heard many good stories about the food and so I thought I shall take the parents there. It's my first time too!

The dishes are tasty and suit my parents' tradtitional tastebuds well, though the prices are a little on the steep side. That "Deep Fried Duck with Yam" costed $15.90, the yam portion was more than the meat! Not that we mind since mum and I love yam! Those "Homemade Beancurd" were smooth and silky, we really enjoyed them. We also got "Seaweed Soup with Wonton" (forgot to name that in the picture, it's in the centre), it was quite appetising and a perfect starter. Dad has to have rice at his meal times or he would go jelly on his knees, so we ordered the only rice item, the "Seafood Fried Rice" and it was quite the standard one like everywhere else. I like the idea of "Mee Sua" (also named "妈祖面线" in Chinese, what a nice name!) since I read a review that it was quite good, so we ordered it too. It came with seafood and wasn't the usual Mee Sua mum loved to cook at home. It came last, all of us were pretty stuffed by then, but it was so delectable that we finished it all. There was no room for dessert though I really would love to have one... haha.

All in all, it was a pleasant dinner! It will be a bonus if they have some cards' promotion, then we will go there more often ;) They only take reservations for big crowd, but I rang up earlier to put my name just in case there's going to be a queue, and it did turn out there was a waiting list. Fortunately, they managed to give us a table fast enough as the old people have little patience.

Be your own Santa this Christmas!

Christmas is a few days away... and suddenly my days are packed with lunch appointments. Out of nowhere. I can't meet most of the people I like to see, and so it shall continue into the new year. Today I tried to accomodate meeting two persons but didn't quite work out well, with only the lunch hour to spare.

The boss will be away but he has took the team to an early Christmas lunch filled with thin crusty pizzas. Boss called himself a pizza-monster, and he had 9 slices! Wooohoo. I had 5, came up 3rd in my team of 6, felt very guilty afterwards. It didn't help when he surprised us with adorable Santa and Snowman cupcakes. There's continous supply of chocolates and treats in the office from our business associates - the boss always brings them up for us.

Giving makes one feel very good, doncha think? Like the past years, I would pack small bags of chocolates, sweets and cookies to give away. I also gifted my new lunch buddy at work a small gift, it wasn't an exchange... Today I met my primary school friend for lunch and passed her a small gift too. She sure was surprised. I think surprises are always nice! I have got my surprises too! Thanks Ah man for making the way down to my office with a little red box, and when I opened it, I was delighted - it's packed with DOMO kun stuff! There's also a Santa in the office, making way to everyone's desks distributing little tiny bags, each with Ovalteenies, a chupa chupa & marshmallow. I don't know him, and I don't think he knows everyone, but I guess it's the season of giving... you know.

If you also feel like doing some good, why not contribute to Ronald McDonald House Charities by getting one of these McHappy Day bears for S$3! I just bought one over lunch, my 2nd McDonald's meal this month, I feel quite disgusted, LOL. Actually, it's not too bad since I quite like the fish fillet... so to lessen my own guilt, I got salt-free fries and diet-coke :) Hah. The first time I had lunch there, I saw Grimace, the purple bear, so I told myself I shall visit when they sell Ronald McDonald (which starts today!). I missed the Hamburlger which is also very adorable. The money also helps one of my good friends' daughter whom is benefitting from the charity, she was staying at the Ronald McDonald House when her daughter was undergoing clinical trial in New York. By the way, you don't have to eat there to buy this bear, you can just walk in and make a meal-free purchase.

Not sure where this picture source is from, guess I will copyright this to McDonald's.

Plump plum pudding

A Christmas pudding, something I got for everyone at home to try... It turned out pretty sweet, and not the kind of thing I'd eat very often or very much. I was too lazy to get vanilla ice-cream too, so had it with the dark chocolate we had at home. I thought plum meant something a little sour, oh well, the Australians have it the other way round. Can I have a more sour kind of pudding - Someone, please invent!

Christmas - silent night

Oooppss.. Christmas day is over, I'm a little late, am I not! I guess I just wasn't in the mood to write, so much to reflect on before the new year arrives. And I certainly can't wait because the next can't be any worse than this one :)))) Tell me, please!

First of all, MERRY CHRISTMAS to all of you... (the above picture is specially for you ;) ) I have already sent my greetings on e-mails and I guess it has reached most people I wanted to get hold of, except a few with invalid email addresses. Thank you to those whom have responded too.

I also met up quite a couple of old friends this month, there was a baby shower... an old schoolmate visiting from HK and the usual christmas-gift-exchange gatherings (which I never seem to get tired of). I haven't had chance to see more people but I'm sure things will fall in place nicely when time comes.

This year's Christmas eve is very unusually spent. The initial plan of heading out for a countdown was cancelled, after most of my friends decided to stay indoor because of the weather or "tired" or "being with kids" or "spending with family"... My family do not celebrate it, and I gave it a miss to join my sister and her friend for a drink too. It was actually quite peaceful, I took out my old wordcross puzzle book, and did 8 freaking puzzles related to winter and christmas! Can you believe that?!?? It's a bit taxing on the mind when I get a little competitive later on (with myself of course). But I was enjoying the weather, very cold (for Singapore) and watching a film on TV at the same time.

What is Christmas without gifts or presents?? Thank you friends, because I absolutely love the things I have received. I also made some small candy packs to give out to old friends whom I randomly meet. I received 2 more snow globes for X'mas, and my current collection has hit 9. Damn, I need to find them a proper storage space! I can imagine next time, I have to allocate a whole shelf just for them. One of them is shown below :)

One very interesting gift I got from a good friend is actually a FENGSHUI keychain which will probably improve my luck - ask me this again one year later, lol. I'll tell you then if it has worked!

I'm actually quite blessed to say I have spent two Christmas before in real winter (one even with snow!), so can't complain much when I have a quiet and warm one. Looking forward to spend my Christmas elsewhere again - wherever that is going to be!

Love you all!

Me recommend this!

Something I indulge in every now and then... and a definite during Christmas!

Last year, I bought myself this again. The first time I bought this was back in London (2004) when I decided to visit my ex-boss and his family before I left for Germany. I got a box of this (very expensive back in London then! was about £4.90), I wrapped some into mini boxes as gifts for the boys. I couldn't resist not having the rest myself! In Singapore it was about S$9.90.

This year, I'm tempted to buy it again... but... something else caught my eye. Lindt has came up with a few limited editions for the festive season! This one below is one of the new additions, it certainly sounds yummmmm.... It's named "Lindt Snowman Lindor Truffles" -- Milk chocolate shells with white chocolate truffle centers.

However, that's not the one I purchased, if you do know me well enough, I would buy anything more than 60% cocoa over milk chocolate! So, something well perfect got my heart swayed! "Lindt Dark Peppermint Lindor Truffles" -- 60% Cocoa Extra Dark Chocolate Shell with a Smooth Peppermint Filling! They taste like another one of my favourites "After Eight" mint chocolate... but this is heaven because it's LINDT!

Thank you Lindt for making my X'mas this year so minty with your dark chocolate!

Fabulous end to 2007

Oh my god, oh lord, oh heaven......

A year has again passed. 2008! I can't believe time flies, and undeniably all of us are just getting older without being acknowledged. Sad but true. I don't want to count the candles on my next birthday and not even to get reminded of how old I was on my last birthday!!

My December was well spent. You should have noticed it, since my blogging activity has suddenly ceased... I am back!! Well, I had a lovely + fabulous + incredible time with my girls. There is nothing, absolutely NOTHING compared to the joy and fun in those weeks. I don't know when we will all be reunited again, but however we're only a MSN window away from each other - that's the consolation!

Christmas 2007

We had an early girls' night out on a Wednesday. 4 girls in a hotel room, things can get pretty "randy" - not sure why I'm using that word but mmm... think "raunchy". LOL. Thanks to Angela, we all have a colorful head each and crazy Syndy and me wore it out on the streets! We're even being spotted in the 7-11 or was it Cheers? I hope that poor chap wasn't being scared by us!

I love the presents we gotten from each other - it comprises of all sort.
Syndy's - something practical and useful.
Angela's - something fun and wacky.
Lisi's - something appropriate and put into good use.
As for mine, I think I have picked something I thought it would suit each of them!

The manicure session (planned by me) was a success however my own fake nails turned out to be a flop when I accidentally lost two of them while out waiting at Zouk! (And well, it was only the starting of the night, shame!) Looks like I better keep my nails than using the fake ones!

The party didn't turn out as we expected... Ladies' night was unusually peaceful, the usual crowd had disappeared. Or have the rainy season made everyone stayed at home?? Everyone was Q-ing up at Zouk, and the rest of the places were too calm, we could smell the dead air! Sigh, anyhow the most important thing was the 4 of us had fun hanging out together!

With the new oven of course :))))

Before Christmas

Here's my second German poem which wasn't up to my own standard, so it has been sent for editing by 2 German-speaking friends. First edit is done by an Austrian, and the second by a German friend who seems to understand it from my romantic point of view (luckily!). Thank you my helpful friends!! Danke schoen sehr!!

I'm not highlighting the changes that have been done like the first time though I'd really like to. It has changed quite a bit but it has been altered to better represent what I have wanted it to express! So anyway, a draft version (After 1st edit version) below will show the rough one which I have initially came up with.

It's named "Before Christmas" in English and it's something I definitely want to be up before X'mas:)

In meinen Zeilen?
ich vermisse dich, und will es dir sagen, bevor Weihnachten zu Ende ist

After 1st edit version (which remains 90% unchanged from my own German writing):

There is no boxing day in Singapore :(

After a super slacking long weekend... which was accompanied by frequent rain, the working week is about to start again. Lucky for those whose companies have declared the whole week off (especially if it's not using your paid leave)! Christmas is very quiet, just with close friends and family plus lots of generous but "repeated annually" movies from Channel 5. How kind! Though the "ELF" was quite a funny one, looking forward to "Mr Deeds" tonight. "Love Actually" was actually a good one but I have seen it couple of times. Christmas eve was rainy as usual, I didn't go with the initial plan (partying @ Zouk). After 2 Christmas parties this fortnight, I have bought myself a mini bottle of red wine (Porta's Cabernet Sauvignon 2003 from Rapel Valley Chile) to countdown to X'mas! My sister took like a 10ml from me, while I finished the rest of 177.5ml with chocolate and gingerbread man. It wasn't a lot but it made me red enough like a roasted pigeon, my sisters were mocking at my pink head... Hope you guys have a good one too. Care to share?

One more Xmas party to come...

My flu miraculously recovered last Friday when I was so ecstatic about the Xmas Party (German Dragon Singapore) that following night. Good mood does make things go easier!

A little about the party. Not too much, in case you doze off while reading... There were about 50 people, free flow of beer, nice buffet of sausages, sauerkraut, mashed potato, spicy wings, bread with cheese and meat selection, salad and soup... probably more if I missed out some. Lot of naughty snow-spraying which turned most of us into 'snowman' and 'snowwoman'. Luckily, I got myself a bottle too, so I could play revenge and be a little devil! Hehe. My nice red boots was hurting my feet, even though there wasn't any dancing but wearing it for hours... ouch... I felt my feet swollen when I got home and so Saturday was for resting.

I wanted to post up a collage of the party pictures but I have emailed majority along with the season greeting. So I'm going save some space here, since I'm not given a lot here. So enjoy the picture for those whom have gotten my message.

Something made me bright and chirpy today. A work email addressing me as Trixy XX-San (where XX is my surname, lol)... I found it quite amusing and cute. Sometimes I love the way the Japanese works - I mean language-wise. Other than that, it's slightly past mid December, I have spent far too much (about $500) for this month. I still have 3 more weeks before I get my paycheck.

3.12.06

I've started counting down...

Even in Singapore, you still get this...
3 gone by now, 21 more to go...
Ho Ho Ho...
Santa's coming to town...

His "Oma und Opa"

As Christmas is approaching... (lol, okay I know Halloween is still not over), I begin to miss his "Oma und Opa". Though I have a living grandma, but it is just so different from having both grandparents still around. (Funny, how come "parent" has a plural form with "s" but grandparent doesn't in the dictionary??) I love the handmade Vollmann's cakes - the sweet almond pastry, the cheesecake, the fruit tart, the creamy cake... I can't care less about gaining weight when I see them - I just have to eat!! The last two christmas, I remember well that I was always fatter than usual, thanks to all the goodies. I wish I can open a cake cafe with the oma's recipe!! Even though they can't utter much in english, but I always feel so welcome in their home, in their company. I look at their wrinkled face, gray hair and still could see so much love in them. I miss them :(((((( I wonder if they will still remember that little Singaporean trixy - me...

p/s: Surprisingly, I didn't get as much aching as I expected.. hoooray! And actually D is still using his old no., so I managed to send him his blessings. All is cool :))

A 'Movie''' X-m-a-s

When it's cold, freezing and too slippery to walk outside... It also means it is a perfect time for inhouse movies!! Germany broadcaster is definitely overly generous with good films on such an occasion. Imagine with cable, you could have more than 2 or 3 good movies going on at the same time at various different channels. And well all in GERMAN...

I caught an incomplete version of Aschenputtel (Cinderella, heard it's more the original version compared to the Hollywood kinda), also incomplete version of Vanilla Sky (starring Tom Cruise. Well it is a bit complicated to understand the story, even more in German:S), incomplete version of Sleepy Hollow (I really like this movie, I don't understand why people do not appreciate such "horror" films;))... The Whole Ten Yards (starring Bruce Willis, an OK killer-plot-comedy), Nightmare before Christmas (by Tim Burton, lovely songs but why in german:(((() and Wasabi (French-Japanese-Combi can be quite an eye-opener and a good laugh). Ooo, if you wonder why it's incomplete, it was because I didn't watch it from the beginning... only caught it half-way or something. :))

Oh I did caught bits and pieces of an OLD (really old) film starring Bruce Lee. It was quite funny to watch a "Chinese" film in German, but I fell asleep... it was already 2am so...

27.12.05

A 'White''' X-m-a-s

Imagine the beautiful white snow falling outside the window... you watch as the flakes drift about in the air before it lands on the warm ground and melts away... They seem like little insects flying all over, but they gave your skin such a tickle that you will shiver with its tenderness. You hold out your hands hoping to collect enough for a little snowball, those little flakes quickly condense with your warmth and quickly enough you are infested with his coldness. As your hands fondle the white snow laying all over, they are soon stinging from the numbness. Your poor fingers feel like they will break apart from that tightness, yet your little fanaticism has kept you going... and going.... and

... daaaa.....ng...

~ * Warmest greetings to Üuuuu * ~

No white christmas this year again... another warm Christmas day probably because it also means with the warmest greetings;)

For all of those whom are not in my emailing list, for whatever reason -- most likely, I haven't got your email address or it is not in my address book just yet... hereby, wishing you and friends/ family/ loved onessssss...

A superb time getting fat with all the festive goodies & a big feast...
A better new 2006 ahead with more things accomplished...
Wishing most of you an enjoyable time exchanging presents...
OR receiving "ang pao" from parents, grandparents...

p.s: "ang pao" means $$$$$ in the Chinese tradition...
