Friends + Beer = Good Time

Recently, Beerfest Asia was here in Singapore. The tickets were going cheap (S$12 inclusive of handling fee) for OCBC card holders, so a bunch of us decided to go ahead. It was my first time, so was it for many of my friends. The ticket included 2 free beers.

It was a Sunday, apparently the last day of the event. They have shortened the starting time from 12 noon to 6pm, which wasn't very nice of them. They didn't even informed us till pretty late. But for the cheap price, what can we bargain for? Friday and Saturday would have been better as they were open till wee hours in the morning, but the advance tickets for OCBC card holders were sold out already on the first day (suspicious!).

I had a few groups of friends whom came at different timings. It was a shame everyone didn't get to talk much to everyone, but I had a fun time nevertheless since I know everyone ;) The free beers were a disappointment as we couldn't exchange it for most imported beers. Only locally brewed and the less popular ones, e.g. Tiger, Brewerkz (this is one of the better!), Archipelago, and some unknown names. We were also given no choice but to have one of the bottles named Super Bock given to us at admission, which tasted like Tiger... Ewww!

My sister and I ventured to the International Beer tent, where a lot of interestingly flavoured beers were but unfortunately many were sold out (being the last day!). Disappointing! I hope they have a quantity next time for each day so everyone gets a fair chance to try! Also, not to give us free crappy beer like Jaz. Haha. I'm not a sucker for free stuff if they are crap! We could buy the more popular beers at about S$10 each (I guess still not the cheapest, compared to beer in Europe!). p.s: I want to go Oktoberfest!!! Not that I'm very much a beer drinker but I think it would be fun attending!

Still, it was a nice first try. The ambience was great, and surrounding is beautiful. Situated right behind the Singapore Flyer, we also could watch live World Cup screening on the big projected screens or listen to the live band. There were food stalls but we didn't try, instead we went out to have Popeye instead! There were also F1 dummy cars on display for some photo-taking. The place was not overly crowded too.

My favourite of the night is a British cider named Green Goblin (the only cider I saw around!). And the most interesting has to be Taiwanese Honeydew melon beer one of my male friends was having and he loves it!

Last week's Monday, there was a business networking event, so I have been having quite a few beers:( (Even when I was sick, I was still drinking!!) Later on, a few glasses of red wine at my overnight stay in Orchid Country Club and a peach Sangria on last Saturday. How bad? Anyway, I really needed to wind down, relax and have a laugh with people... so it's all fine.

I met Marz after ages (months) and well things have changed. I was surprised he and his long-termed girlfriend aren't together anymore. Well, changes, changes. Good or bad. I have had many changes as well and things will never stop changing for me! I also met his friend, Bernard, and friend's friend, Simon... both very entertaining guys:)

I'm happy to turn in now, yawn (after alcohol). Good night my friends!

What goes well with beer?

After reading Joy's comment, I feel very guilty. I have had more beer/alcohol in the recent time more than I probably had the previous year. LOL, that might be true. Then again, the only consolation is that I gave half of this bottle to my dad;) Erdinger, one of my favourite german beer. Okay, from now on, I've to cut down my alcohol intake. Pray for me;)

I needed a beer

Frustrated with deprivation of alcohol... I messaged almost everyone I knew but no one was free!!! People are either off for a weekend holiday, sick, busy, taking care of kid or they don't drink at all. I'm beginning to realise I do lack of friends whom are spontaneous enough. My potential drinking mates are unfortunately thousands of miles away and no one is left to 借酒消愁 with me, in fact it's not 愁，it is 闷闷闷闷闷闷闷。My days at home are bugged with fruitless job searching and an overdose of beauty sleep. I needed a stimulant.

Strangely, the first thing on my mind is ALCOHOL. (I'm not alcoholic I SWEAR and I don't intend to be one!)

I ended up persuading both my sisters (whom are more party-poopers than clubbers) to come along, gladly they did because I think they needed a stimulant as well in their too-routine life. ChinaOne is a nice place but sadly they do not carry enough variety of BEERS!!! We stood like pillars with our Corona-s, my sister looked so tense and uneasy, the other tired and grumpy. Not the best night, really... I was starting to regret making them come.

At about 11pm, one of them wanted to leave... I reluctantly obliged as the boredom marked on her face was infectious. So I made a last trip to the Ladies. Upon returning to the table, I noticed a couple of familiar faces - people from a travel community whom I met once.

Right then, my party mood started to surface, I decided to stay and it was a wise decision. My lil sister, being a clubbing virgin, wanted to do the same. I also bumped into an ex-colleague, John, whom stayed around too... A fruitful night afterall, I managed to get my dose of alcohol (beer), met new people, saw old familiar faces and also taught my lil sister a new lesson about partying-dancing-clubbing!

And to be honest, I don't think I know myself that well enough... but something for sure is that I am constantly changing and learning. If you say I was really a quiet person in the past, I would agree with you. But now... apparently things have changed. Yesterday, I bumped into John (an ex-colleague) whom has set off my wanderlust... he was selling me off to his mate (Pete) that I was once the most boring person in Singapore - having not gotten out of Singapore for the first 21 years of my life. And then he said - look at me now... I probably know more about UK than he does (which I don't reckon!).

Not prepared

As I am blogging, the girls are probably still downing beers and pizza at Wala Wala. It's my 4th night out and another booze. I reckon I'll be dead if I do it a few more times. Barely a week, 4 days consumption of alcohol... now my liver needs a rest. Good thing is I never gotten drunk on any occasion, and that means I didn't exceed my limit;) Today, after a 0.5L Erdinger... I felt extremely sleepy, might also be due to my 5-6 hours of sleep.

1st Day at Work

Feeling stressed about it. It's been a while since I put myself into a spot... whether to commit or not! I start to dread, to fear, to be afraid, to be scared... to be indecisive. This new job is challenging and way too, a lot of rollercoaster rides ahead. Am I prepared, can I do it? I can't give an answer. To be totally brutally honest, I haven't gotten myself into the mood yet. Or should I say I'm not yet passionate about it. I'm probably straining myself a little too much than I can handle, afterall it's only the first day and I don't have to prove anything. I'm swayed by a temptation, and it's hard to resist.

3 parties & a booze in less than a week

Isn't it crazy... Well for a person like me, yes, CRAZY. The most I have done was a couple of times a month, but now it all happens in a week. I couldn't turn them down since friends came back from abroad... and well of course, to catch up with other long-time-no-see friends... plus I had a week free before the start of the new job. Gay clubs, we went. It was my virgin visit, and we went to two of them... can't say I totally enjoy or hate it. These 'men' are all so CUTE, yes. But they're interested in what I'm interested in too - MEN. Only difference is probably they're looking for homosexual ones:)

620am. See the dark morning sky, force my butt out of the bed, do a speedy shower and preparation and an hour journey to work. God!

Have you heard of a microbrewery in Singapore besides Tiger (of course) and Brewerkz. Here's another one if you're not aware of - Paulaner. Yes, it's German. For your information, here's the Munich Paulaner (Germany), and here's the Singapore Paulaner. I'm very impressed with the germany's site, beautifully illustrated and animated ;) *thumbs up*

Last night, I was there for Stammtisch. In case you're wondering what's that, it's actually a monthly gathering for German speakers, don't get the wrong idea. You don't see a lot of germans, some... and in fact there are a lot of locals or foreigners (japanese, spanish, vietnamese) whom are fluent in the language - very impressed.

Inside Paulaner Bräuhaus (Singapore), you see painting/sketches of the Munich Paulaner... furnished with maple wood and dimly lit... It cultivates a very relaxed atmosphere for a drink or two. Not forgetting, they brew really good beer under "The german law of purity". Munich Lager and Munich Dark, I like both equally!

We were at the restaurant on level 2, food can be a bit pricey however the standard is there. I love their sauerkraut and mashed potato... simply wouldn't get sick of it! A few of us shared the sausage platter, Weisswurst and the infamous crispy pork knuckle, so it turned out fairly reasonable and portion was just right. I was with a group of locals whom have mastered german (already fluent), but we spoke in English throughout. I am very very surprised to know they are so similar people like me, whom have travelled a fair bit, love to travel, love the german language and so interested in their cultures... Thank you, I found you guys!!

I was mentally exhausted from work to be listening on the brewery tour, even though Alex (the brewmaster) was quite entertaining and his english isn't bad at all for a german. Here's some reading if you are curious about the process. And of course... pictures!

6 men 1 woman

We finally did it. Uummmmm, I mean the booze with John. He is returning to Hong Kong today. I arrived pretty late due to an appointment with Angela down at Metro, as the booze was beginning at 8pm.

Elliot (John's friend) was there. He has a very cute skinny frame. Cubby, Damien, Nick, Jeffrey and me (ex-colleagues). And John. That makes it seven. I suddenly realised I was the only woman, it was still pretty comfortable as we did hang out drinking in the past. I had only a bottle of Heineken to last my hour. I didn't stay long as I freaking slept at 4am the night before. Felt horrible. It was a small and warm group catching up about gossips in our offices, about my traveling plans again, their life stories. Interestingly, I did talk to almost everyone that evening. I have never spoken to Elliot the last couple of boozing sessions, but somehow London became a common topic... Damien, Jeffrey and Nick were as usual joking over the mugs of beer, John did ask about the Fab 4. Of course we are still sticking together!!

It's a pity I didn't warm my bum enough on the chair, however it was still an awesome night~~~
