It is sick

Past midnight...

I am writing this after watching the news on the tsunami hitting the Japan's coast and it's heartbreaking to see them. Japan had a 8.9-magnitude earthquake on Friday, just as I was emailing with the Japan office over a minor issue they had been fussing over the whole morning. The office was evacuated shortly after the quake, I was relieved that they won't be bugging me anymore, but at the same time, I knew it must be quite serious as they had been evacuated. Nobody anticipated the aftermath to be so serious, with the death toll and unaccounted for rising rapidly over the past 24 hours. Like many, we always thought Japan is very well prepared (as they are leading and so advanced in many things)... and besides, earthquakes are known to be common for the area. But this time, it is really bad! Let's all hope that things are falling back into places and no more tremors and tsunami triggered.

There's a rumour about this date 21 December 2012 being the day a big disaster will befall... if you're curious, you can also try searching for the video on youtube.

Like Rolls Royce

Tsunami preyed on Solomon Islands yesterday morning. Poor things... there was no warning.

My mum teased me,"Now you're spending all your $$$ (savings) because Tsunami is approaching..." I bought Royce chocolate home today, just because I suffer a severe craving for good quality chocolate. I visited Carrefour but was just not keen in Lindt or Nestle or Hersey anymore... Not even Meiji. I have always seen Qs at the Royce shop but never understood why until today.

I try it! I tried!

I have a very specific craving... only dark chocolate. So after chatting with the sales person (a true japanese), I decided to go for NAMA BITTER! It's a 20 pcs box. It has to be refrigerated... so she packed it with dry ice while I carefully sent it home and into the cool temperature. Dinner was over and we all couldn't wait. Sister was more anxious than me, I could see her waiting to jump onto my tiny box of chocolates! Attack!

So I carefully opened it, of course, it being the first time! It comes in such an elegant packaging that it seems a pity to tear everything open... But when I finally lifted the cover, I went,"WOW!" So so so heavenly and they're just mouthwatering. Divine!

I poked it with the plastic fork provided, slowly put it into my mouth... It just slowly melted... Immersed, the bittersweet taste immediately surfaced and you felt the endorphin rush. It made you happy quickly, like a drug. It made you addicted, like the drug too. Endorphin: Any of a group of peptide hormones that bind to opiate receptors and are found mainly in the brain. Endorphins reduce the sensation of pain and affect emotions - quoted from dictionary.com.

All in all, I say,"If you have not tasted it, give it a go... Royce is a must-try for its affordable and quality japanese chocolate!"

Not another killer wave

A second tsunami nearly visited Asia again. Another earthquake hit Sumatra, after that tragic incident on 26 December. This time, it wasn't as serious, but a lot of neighboring countries felt the tremors. Japan recently had one big earthquake too isn't it!

Me? I was trying to recall what I was doing at that same time, probably was logging off the internet.

If I did not remember wrongly, a friend said these natural disasters are a form of population control. All the while, a lot of Asia countries like Japan, Hong Kong and Singapore are experiencing low birth rate and a worrying sign of aging population in the future. Yet another part of the continent, children are losing their lives or their parents. Ironical eh!

A series of earthquakes are predicted to follow after the biggest one that triggered tsunami, this one is just a beginning?? Somehow it is quite relieving to see how other countries are offering help and assistance to the affected area, human relationship should be more like this isn't it? There, I have to say I'm proud of Singapore for this one :)))

Tsunami

It is the first time I heard of a huge disaster hitting the S.E.Asia! Should Singapore be lucky to be sheltered by some neighboring countries?? I hope Singapore is not affected too much, I didn't get any (sg) news except about the rising death tolls in Indonesia, Thailand (Phuket), Sri Lanka and India. I have some friends holidaying in Thailand for Christmas season, and I'm keeping my fingers crossed for their safety.

I can barely recall the term "Tsunami" till I was again reminded by the television that it was the currents in the ocean triggered by an earthquake on the seabed. Are the fishes killed too? Can wakeboarders survive?? Where are the fishermen?? What happened to the big boats out in the sea!? All these terms we have learned during the geography lesson were forgotten because we have never expected them to occur. But things do happen... earthquake, typhoon, volcano eruption, flood, sand storm, cyclone...

The world seems to be having a hard time the recent years. Terrorism, 9-11, Bali, Iraq war, SARS...

Let's hope that the counting down to the new year also eliminates all the bad luck!
