遇见怪脾的人 (17) - Having a beer belly is pregnant?
Ang Mo like these made me feel like going up to them and say, "Sir, where are you from? You should go back to your home country instead of being another disgrace to Singapore." So what if he's ang mo, that only means he earns more money and should be able to afford a taxi, right, since he doesn't even know what "considerate" is. He doesn't even look old enough to have brittle bones, and yet he acted as if he's blind to the pregnant woman standing right in front of him. Please lah, we need less of your type of species here to add on to the already kiasu Singaporeans.
p.s: If he happens to be your boss, please ask the company to send him back home!
Unfair. You have no idea if this guy is sick or if he even noticed. The chances are he is just rude. But if that's the case, what does that have to do with race or ethnicity?
ReplyDeleteThe very first word of this post is offensive - 'angmo'. Then the rest just reveals your stereotypical view of white people in Singapore - must be rich, etc.
You don't know him. I saw rudeness every day in Singapore by Singaporeans but I wouldn't want to post their images while making stereotypical comments.
When I was traveling back from the hospital after my back surgery in Singapore, I wouldn't have given up a seat on the MRT!
ON a more practical note, I sometimes ask old ladies and pregnant women if they would like to sit and they say 'No i'm getting off at the next stop'. That could the case here. Images can be deceptive.
ReplyDeleteBut in any case, it's a useful image for you as it confirms your own stereotypes or gives you a chance to criticze an 'ang mo'.
You probably won't post this, but you should think more seriously about ruining a stranger's right to privacy without knowing any of the circumstances.
Over and out.
Anonymous. One thing likely is you are another ang mo. You can say I'm stereotyping, freedom of your speech :D But if you have known me in person, you will know I love the ang mo as much as I love others and BTW I am in this cabin for a long time till he alighted, and someone in front of me stood up, I asked the pregnant lady to come over. SO THAT CONFIRMS SHE WANTS TO SIT, and this ang mo you're defending here, did look up, but he looked everywhere else but not at her. So if he has eyes to read, does he not have eyes to see? I hope you should also understand the situation before posting on my blog as some kind of anonymous! If I want to ruin his privacy, this will go up LIVE on STOMP, mind you! I don't take a picture and post it to ruin one's reputation until I have the whole train journey with this person and has observed it. Maybe you should mind your business :)
ReplyDeleteAnyway Anonymous, I am not saying everyone should give up their seat (yes, some people might be sick or have injury), but pretending not to notice someone in need of the seat just bothers me. I rolled my eyes when I watched him looking up and deliberately not in that particular direction.
