Marché restaurant had closed down in The Heeren and Suntec City, surprisingly it opened a new branch at 313 Somerset. Cheryl, my work buddy, happened to receive the invites, and so here we go again :) It was 8 December 2009, a group of about 10 of us went...
woohoo!

Here's the icon of Marché, the green cow. You can never go wrong! And this Marché Bakery is new, I have also tried the bread on another occasion, it's delicious especially when you get them freshly out of the oven. Warm, soft and makes you want more! They are a bit pricey but you can probably get them freshly baked if you're lucky! The entrance to the Marché restaurant is actually through this bakery, there you walk down the stairs to that secretive underground restaurant.

We were given a card each to be swiped for food purchases (like how you usually do so when you go to a Marché restaurant). The decor is nice as usual, we sat at the corner with round wooden tables and stools. Then the most important thing to do is to RESERVE your table and go QUEUE for food. It was open to SingTel staff by invitation that day, and was quite crowded. We had to queue for a long time, especially for that rosti!!!!

Service was slow too as all the staffs were still undergoing training. The food quality wasn't consistent as well, as we did order a few repeated things. I queued up for the rosti and unfortunately the staff wasn't very organised, she ended up forgetting whose cards had been swiped and whose not... It was okay since it was free that day anyway but it just didn't help her in the job. Her supervisor who was coaching her seemed a little impatient... Fortunately, I still managed to have my rosti with sausage after that LONG waiting time.
The advantage of going in a group of 10 is that all of us went to queue for different items and we shared all of them. We got to try most things. Pizza was so-so, some flavours were nicer than the others. I enjoyed the mushroom soup, a good standard. Rosti with sausage was usual, nothing too fanciful but still a hot favourite for most. Salmon was alright, so are the pasta. The crepes were pretty good too but not consistent with their making; the Mövenpick ice-cream was so addictive we had quite a few rounds, they weren't consistent with the scoop size as well. I love their Passion Fruit & Mango (sorbet) as well as Maple Walnut! The mint flavour was also very refreshing. I had a bottle of ginger beer too but this can be easily found in the supermarket. We also took all the cakes, one of each! LOL. There were about 6 of them, I wasn't too impressed with them as there are much better cafes out there serving cakes. I have forgotten the rest of the things we ate... but these are the ones I can recall :P

In conclusion, the people in my group thought that the quality was average and inconsistent, but since it was free, there was nothing to make a big fuss about. Marché's prices aren't exactly cheap, so if they are much better now after the training, it will be worth to go for some rosti and ice-cream ;)
Dear Ms. Potatoe
ReplyDeleteThank you very much for your comment. Since your visit a lot of training has been done and we also hired new staff.
It would be great if you gave us a second chance so that we could prove you that we offer tasty and fresh food and a good service.
Market fresh regards
Nicole from Marché International
Hi Nicole,
ReplyDeleteCoincidentally, I re-visited last Thursday. The service is improved indeed. I enjoyed the savoury crepe I ordered even though the staff entered an extra "topping" on my card when I didn't have. I checked the card and told them and it was being rectified. My friends didn't seem to enjoy the crepes as much as I did. The mushroom soup was nice too but the large version for a higher price seems "small". I noticed the prices are higher than before. I tried the APPLE TEA which was exceptional :))) Please continue to provide excellent food & services :)
