... I can fly.

It has been 8 months... since I last boarded a plane. I miss that carefreeness whenever I carry my 10kg worth of load on my back, not knowing what's next or whose next that I will meet? I am addicted to that feeling, that excitement and the element of surprise in life. Almost everyone asked me what's next after my contract ends, I could only smile at them and reply,"A holiday?" My life has no routine, I'm not saving to buy a HDB flat in Singapore or hope to own a car... My life doesn't revolve just around Singapore and I am sure it won't. My best friend loathes my lifestyle or at least I think she does... not sure whether she's envious that I didn't have to care as much as she does about material possession or perhaps she's worried that I can't seem to commit to anything in life. Well, I would love to but I haven't found this something that I'm prepared to give up everything to commit to, unfortunately. I am like a bird who has left a cage and found my wings... I would still come home, but just don't try to clip my wings :)

The evolution of social media...

I was very into the social media scene which has newly popped up online back then. I joined Facebook not long after a friend sent me an invite in 2006, when Friendster and Myspace were pretty "in". I didn't log in often to Facebook since none of my friends wanted to follow suit. Everyone was just "Friendster, friendster and friendster." Even Myspace has been pretty quiet in my social circle except for the few friends in the music industry and the American friends. But today, I actually have more friends in Facebook than the other two networking sites. Not only that, most of my friends logged in daily and I'm updated with their lives without physically seeing them - such a lazy way. Internet has made us all lazy. Some friends eventually lost the interest and soon "faded out of my life"... Strange things internet can do to your social life.

In 2007, I remember attending an interview at the British High Commission in Singapore for a position on Web Communication. I was asked to present one website that I would think of as an excellent example of online communication. Those were the days when Facebook was newly hatched and everyone had doubts about networking sites being useful for commercial and corporate use. Still, I chose Facebook and blabbered about it. I didn't think anyone there was convinced... deep down, they might still be laughing at my idea of using a social media/networking site for any fruitful ways of communication.

2 years down the road...

Today, I'm very pleased to see how it has evolved. I'm very proud to say I'm using that for my job now and promoting an event/festival with the use of social media tools. Time proves it all :)

Swap swap swop

I attended the "SWOP" event yesterday organised by a committee whom has been doing it regularly. This is something new to me! What a good way of recycling!

Supposedly going with the sister but she was stuck somewhere enjoying someone painting her toe nails. So I ended up queueing up and went in alone! I brought 10 pieces of unwanted clothings, those which we have been dying to donate to the Salvation Army but lacked the transport and time to do it. So great, now they holding this event at Tampines 1... I practically just walked over! Admission was $5, minimum of 5 pieces of clothings to bring along. I didn't know there wasn't a limit to the number of clothings we bring, so anyway I only had 10 with me. They had a quality check (refused those with stains/dye) then gave us tokens (for the no. of successful ones thrown in for swapping) for us to exchange it for others' unwanted clothings. It was like treasure hunting, digging in the piles. It was just what I expected, the sponsored clothings were gone by the time I got in... a lot of really worn, old and not fashionable pieces. It took me a while to find some decent ones, I found 2 tees that suit my sisters, got those; and then found some for myself. I'm so lucky to find a TopShop linen shorts that actually smell "new", size 10 but fits me perfectly! Got back home and realised some doesn't fit me, I shall give them away or goes back to my Salvation Army "bag". There was also movie screening inside, couch area for boyfriends.. and free ice-cream.

It's a new experience and definitely worth the $5, just wish that more people could have donated better quality clothings (maybe they did and were all snapped up) than some worn out and outdated stuff! The things I brought were all pretty new (mostly from my sister), just no longer wearable anymore. By the way, at the end of the day, the clothes left over from the event would still eventually go to the Salvation Army!

Upgraded to FINE city

Changi Airport dropped its ranking this year... well, I wasn't too surprised. How long can one retain on the top of the list?? Not forever obviously. But still it's among the top, so I don't think too much to fuss about.

Besides fining people for jaywalking, recently they found something new to do! Fine people for eating and drink in the trains and train stations. How nice?!? I mean, Singapore is already a very green and clean city, besides we are not littering or dirtying the train cabins... Well most of us are not, but I'm sure there are minor few who like to disrupt the peace and cleanliness (like anywhere else). But coming to this measure, that's a bit restricting! It might take some time to get used to, but imagine you're on the train for an hour journey and not even allowed to suck on a little candy to keep the spirit up or even have a sip of water! How about those little poor wailing babies???

DIY food

Done these over the last Sunday with my lil sis. It's awesome to do it with someone because usually I can't be bothered to make a mess out of the kitchen! It was meant to be her baking but ended up I kinda enjoyed helping her out... ;)

The cookies are amazing, the soft ones feel like the freshly baked Subway cookies, while the golden brown ones are like Famous Amos chocolate chips cookies! It's a little sweet, I hate adding the amount of sugar I'm instructed to on the recipes, next time it's wiser to probably gauge the amount of sugar ourselves.

I was doing the lemon sorbet myself with my lil sis taking the whole time just preparing the lemon zest. It didn't quite freeze that night, so I came home after work on Monday, mashed it up with a fork and then transferred it over to a box. Looks like I have bought it somewhere, isn't it! It's pretty sour, and just the way we like it! (Apparently, sorbet is also known as sherbet which is considered as frozen drink!)

Real Nasi Lemak

... should come with an abundant amount of sambal (spicy sauce). Here's my Saturday lunch, I haven't had a good traditional Nasi Lemak (wrapped in banana leaves) for the longest time and this really makes my day!

Hear the devil's say

Just bought some stuff from Harvey Norman yesterday, now feeling a little regretful over my earphones purchase. I decided on a neck strap version but however was in a dilemma choosing between Sony's and Philips'. I wanted to go for Philips, well, reasons being I was more attracted to the way it looks, funky red, stylish and attractive packaging. But after being talked around by the sales person (who I probably shouldn't have listened to), I ended up with Sony's pink MDR-NE2 which is slightly an older version compared to Philips' red Bubbles. The man convinced me that Sony has better sound quality given their identical specifications. Got home and told sis about the buy, she agreed that Sony's products do last longer. I have my doubts, I'm still thinking about how that red color could have matched better with my Creative Zen (so shallow, considering I only want that for color coordination). Shame that I wouldn't be able to exchange it now... just live with it I guess. Perhaps time can prove me that my decision is right??

Devil in the head says:"Live with it, bugger!"

Winter week starts on Monday

Supposed to write a "Monday afternoon danger" becaue it was Monday again when I encountered a scary looking sky. But it slipped off my mind... and I can't seem to be able to recall the details now. Sorry about it, I wish I have recorded that down. Perhaps I can try a very short one here.

1630 in the afternoon. Winter. It resembles London in winter time or 2000 Singapore time. Dark, gray and gloomy. Without any motion in the air, without a soul on the street, I looked out the window only to watch the cars stationary on the roads. The man is green and hasn't blinked. Like a dead town, the world has ended, I feel the silence and a sense of insecurity. Something is going to happen. Like my mood that Monday afternoon, a lighting might strike anytime. The clouds so thick I am under their blanket, shielding me from something hot scorching above. I know somehow I am safe.

Broken soul (sole)

I threw away your favourite shoes
Along with the pain it inflicted me
Why does it once fit so well
But changed horribly overnight

You looked like all I could trust
And now I know you misplaced it
You are just a broken sole
Without a good support

I don't want to remember the days I walked in you
Because they aren't the best days of my life
Let me forget you existed
So I can find a better replacement

Wrote this on impulse within 3 minutes... because the feelings just came ;)

My lil' KK trip

I like my mum's way of thinking ;)

Suddenly got reminded that my holiday is end of this month, July is already here... But I haven't had time to really think about the holiday or even plan it. I gave mummy a reminder incase she forgot. So the first thing she asked me is,"Are you going with an Ang Mo?" She certainly remembers I went with one for my Bali trip but little did she know that that friend isn't a friend anymore! And I'm super turned off to go on holiday with another one. The truth is, this time I am going with one but his girlfriend is coming along too! God bless me, because I really hate to go on a pleasant holiday with a super annoying companion. Guess I need to put some time aside to plan what I really like to do during the 6 days!
